Learning New Things

Isabel moved to Yankton this past summer.  She has had a passion for music her whole life.  When she moved, Isabel wanted to connect with a music teacher who could help her improve her skills on the guitar.  Isabel met with local artist and music teacher James Dean and decided to sign up for guitar lessons with him.  Isabel has been loving her weekly lessons and learning more about the local music scene in Yankton.

Local artist Roger Huntley and his wife Marilyn recently invited the Community Day Services art exploration class to visit their home studio.  Roger talked about the process of sculpting his pieces and where he gets his stone to carve. Roger also makes peace pipes out of pipestone. Roger shared that this is a special kind of stone and that you have to be at least 1/4 Native America to purchase the raw stone.
